🧠 Breaking free from Overthinking
The Power of Purpose, Focus and Mindfulness
Digital environments can be challenging for our minds. They are far away from nature. Our brain needs to sort our thoughts, ideas and input from outside and is supposed to bring them into actions and results. Especially for rather introverted people this often leads to overthinking.
At a certain point in time I found out for myself, that this was not helpful for me on the long run. In this article I will share 5 aspects that all belong together and helped me to come into action rather than overthinking things.
💡 5 Tips for better Focus at Work
At the end of the day, with the flood of daily distractions, it often feels like you haven't accomplished anything. A work day usually has 8 hours. How you use your work day is entirely up to you.
These tips can help you get back control of your own focus:
👉️ Put focus slots into your calendar
Make sure those slots appear as "booked" for others. You can set those slots for specific topics or topics on a regular basis.
👉️ Divide bigger tasks into smaller sub-tasks
This way, you can find a start and don’t feel overwhelmed by the size of the tasks.
👉️ Use the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique is simple and helps you to stay focused, to achieve partial successes quickly, and to plan breaks.
👉️ Use visual Todo-Tools
This allows you to break down tasks, collect them, and avoid losing track. Everything is in one place, and you can revisit it anytime. There are several tools out there. One Tool I can recommend is todoist. It’s clean, simple and for the most important tasks free.
👉️ Put away your mobile phone
This way, you have control over your focus. No distractions. Everything else can wait.
💡 Bonus for Mac Users: Use the focus-time feature
You can disable all notifications or even those from individual apps. For example, when you are working on something important or when you in a meeting.
📕 Pick of the month: The book “The ONE Thing”
The ONE Thing by Garry Keller and Jay Papasan is an easy read and gives very useful ideas on how to unclutter and get things done by focussing on what is important right now. It gives additional information and different views on the topic of this newsletter. Or how they say: It’s “The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results”. Don’t know where to start? Maybe this book can help you 💪 |
